What runs today

No advertising script is loaded. No analytics script is loaded. The pages do not set a cookie in order to show you a guide.

If you close the note at the bottom of the screen, this browser stores a small flag under the name cookie-notice-ack. That flag lives in local storage. It only remembers that the note was closed. It is not a cookie, it is not sent to us, and it is not a “yes” to ads or to measurement.

What we may add later

Before any of these are turned on, this page will be updated and the effective date will be set.

Google AdSense. Ads would be served by Google. Google can set advertising cookies, including cookies used to limit how often an ad is shown, to measure an ad, and, where allowed, to make an ad more relevant. Google describes that processing here: How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

Google Analytics 4, if we use it. It would use cookies to count visits. In the EEA, the UK, and Switzerland it would load only after the consent those rules require.

Cloudflare Web Analytics, if we use it. That product is built not to use cookies and not to identify a person. Hosting through Cloudflare can still process an IP address so the page can be delivered. That is separate from a measurement cookie.

Consent before ads

People in the EEA, the UK, and Switzerland must get a real choice before Google ads are served. AdSense in those places needs a consent tool that Google has certified. The tool we plan to use by default is Google’s own Privacy & messaging, which AdSense offers without a separate fee.

Advertising scripts and analytics scripts will load only after the choice the rule requires. On this preview they do not load at all. Privacy & messaging is not installed.

In Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, and Chile, the cookie rules are not identical. We still will not drop advertising cookies in those countries until the consent approach for that country is in place. The privacy policy names the main data-protection laws.

Closing the note on this preview does not operate that choice.

Your own controls

You can block or delete cookies in the browser. You can also clear site data, which removes the local flag that hides the note. Browser controls will matter more after ads exist. Today there is no ad cookie to remove.
